Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.

        - Add the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder and mix until just combined. Spread the brownie batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

          Make the Cookie Layer:

            - In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

              - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt, then gradually add to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined, and fold in the chocolate chips.

                Assemble the Browkies:

                  - Carefully spoon the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to gently spread the cookie batter evenly over the brownie layer, making sure they don't mix too much.

                    Bake:

                      - Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are okay).

                        Cool and Serve:

                          - Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for at least 10-15 minutes before cutting into squares. For best results, let them cool completely before slicing to achieve cleaner edges.
