Ingredients

1 loaf (12-15 ounces) of challah or brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

8 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup fresh blueberries (or any preferred fruit)

1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Start by cutting the challah or brioche bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread the cubes evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Mix the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined and the mixture is smooth.

Combine Bread and Custard: Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are well soaked. Using a spatula, gently press down on the bread to make sure it's fully submerged. Sprinkle the fresh blueberries evenly on top.

Overnight Chill: Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours). This allows the bread to absorb the custard.

Preheat the Oven: The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Casserole: Remove the cover from the baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.

Serve and Enjoy: Allow the casserole to cool for about 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Optional Toppings: Feel free to add more fresh fruit, whipped cream, or nuts as desired.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 9 hours (including overnight chill) | Servings: 8
