Ingredients

1 loaf of brioche bread, sliced thick

4 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

¾ cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup brown sugar (for topping)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for greasing the dish)

Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with the unsalted butter. Layer the thick slices of brioche evenly in the prepared dish, ensuring they overlap slightly.

Make the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the brioche slices, making sure they are fully soaked. Press down gently to ensure all pieces are coated.

Cover and Refrigerate: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or at least for 4 hours) to allow the bread to fully absorb the custard.

Preheat Oven: The next day, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare for Baking: Remove the French toast from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the edges are slightly crispy.

Crisp the Top: For a classic crème brûlée touch, you can finish it under the broiler for an additional 2-3 minutes. Keep a close eye to avoid burning!

Serve: Let the French toast cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, garnished with fresh berries and a light dusting of powdered sugar.

Enjoy: This sweet and creamy masterpiece is best enjoyed with maple syrup on the side!
