Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk mixed with 1 tablespoon vinegar)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional for a warm spice flavor)

For the Glaze:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

3 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a donut pan or use a silicone donut mold for easy release.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg (if using) until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs and then add the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; be careful not to overmix; some lumps are okay.

Fill the Donut Pan: Transfer the donut batter into a piping bag or a ziploc bag with the corner snipped off. Fill each cavity of the donut pan about 2/3 full.

Bake: Bake the donuts for 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Glaze: In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and glossy. Adjust with more milk for a thinner glaze or more powdered sugar for a thicker consistency.

Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Place them back on the wire rack to let the glaze set.

Serve: Enjoy your melt-in-your-mouth glazed donuts with a cup of coffee or enjoy them on their own!
