Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar, divided

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk

2 cups peeled, diced apples (about 2 medium apples)

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

1-2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup of granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Apples: Gently fold in the diced apples into the batter until evenly distributed.

Transfer to Pan: Spoon the batter into the prepared loaf pan, leveling it out with a spatula.

Sprinkle Sugar: In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup of granulated sugar with a teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.

Bake the Bread: Bake in the preheated oven for about 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool it Down: Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Glaze: While the bread cools, mix the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if it's too thick.

Glaze the Bread: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread, allowing it to run down the sides.

Serve and Enjoy: Slice your Country Apple Fritter Bread and enjoy the sweet, spiced flavors that evoke the heartiness of a country kitchen!
