Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg, at room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter until well blended.

Stir in the brown sugar, followed by the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

Add the baking soda and salt, then mix until combined.

Gradually fold in the flour using a spatula, making sure not to overmix; just until you see no dry flour.

Gently fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly with the spatula.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, cut into squares and enjoy your delicious chocolate chip banana bars!
