Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (preferably grass-fed)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1/2 cup onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 red bell pepper, finely diced

1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped

1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped

2 green onions, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste

Butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce leaves for wrapping

Chopped fresh cilantro and lime wedges for serving

Instructions

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

Cook the Aromatics: Add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger to the skillet. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and the mixture is fragrant.

Add the Ground Beef: Push the onion mixture to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Incorporate Veggies: Stir in the red bell pepper and mushrooms. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

Flavor It Up: Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Mix well to combine all ingredients evenly and let it simmer for about 2 minutes.

Add Water Chestnuts: Stir in the chopped water chestnuts and green onions. Cook for another minute to warm up the water chestnuts.

Season: Taste and adjust with salt and pepper if needed. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Wraps: Spoon the beef mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf. Top with chopped cilantro and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Serve: Enjoy the wraps fresh, letting everyone assemble their own at the table!
